Make a Resolution to Preserve Your Fertility
But how about making a different type of resolution that could help preserve your fertility so that you can build your family when you are ready?
When you are younger, preserving fertility is not something you may normally think about. But since age is the main factor that decreases your chances of having a baby, you may want to consider doing certain things NOW to help your chances of building a family when the time is right!
Try adding these three resolutions to your list in 2013:
Stop smoking. Smoking can lead to fertility problems, including ovulation problems, damage to your reproductive organs and/or your eggs, and increased risk of miscarriage.
Get in shape. Being overweight has been linked to multiple medical problems including infertility. The primary obstacle for overweight women is ovulatory dysfunction. It has been shown that weight loss often leads to resumption of normal menses and increased pregnancy rates.
Consider egg freezing. The foremost threat to a woman’s fertility is the aging process (fertility declines rapidly starting in the late thirties). While you are younger, freezing your eggs might be your best chance for preserving your ability to have a child later in life, whenever you are ready.
Whether you want to learn more about egg freezing for fertility preservation, or if you are ready to start building your family now, our physicians can help.
